Alaskan Colorful Scrimshaw on Ancient Ivory Brooch Pin

$75.00

10,000 years ago woolly mammoths roamed the Alaskan tundra. For thousands of years walrus have lived in Alaska's icy seas. After natural deaths the ivory tusks were deposited in the earth. Today, gold miners and Eskimos dug up this ivory. This ivory is hand cut, graind and polished to a high luster. Then, the surface is carefully engraved by hand with designs of Alaskan wildlife and flowers. Finally, the engraved lines are colored with oil paint to bring out the engraving....leaving a long lasting image.
